Hello
Quidco payment of £9 somthing so stuck £10 into savings, noticed that there is quite a bit left in the current account though all bills paid, so quickly paid another £300 into the same account.. Should still be able to pay another £300 into the regular saver at the end of the month so I'm really pleased.
Think I'm going to follow the example of a few of you and open some more savings accounts for money that will be spent at some point in 2013 I.e for birthdays, holidays, christmas, car insurance, tax and repairs. Also house insurance which is paid yearly. Another spread sheet beckons!0 -

Another one in the house deposit camp here!
Pay day today so I've transferred more into savings. So far I have saved £1200 this month! But probably nothing more to come.
Good start to the year I think!2021 MFW #35: £6000/£60000 -
Some more added to the pot. During my bank switch over Halifax found an old liquid gold account of mine with just over £2 in it. That went straight into savings!Pay off all your debts by Christmas 2025 no. 15 £0/69490

snowgo, thanks very much for explaining this in detail. It makes such good sense. I think I've tried to work it like that at times but I usually fall off the wagon as it were, either when I get reallybusy at work and OS and M go out of the window, in come ready meals and compensatory treats... or when I give up in a huff because OH isn't doing the same and it seems like my efforts are (a) no fun and (b) in vain. Luckily neither of those things are the case at this precise moment! I've decided to just take control of my money and not bother about his, I can only think about what I can control. I have a whole day of not needing to do anything so I think I'm going to set up this system and see (again) how it works.
Thanks also to others who shared their systems, much appreciated.0 -

Last week I got word that I was getting a bonus for all my hard work from last year which will be included in next pay. So I will put that to savings and post how much it is when the Taxman has had his share!! :j0

I'm wondering what the point of saving anything is these days, given the pitiful rewards. I'd rather just give it to charity and get 40% back.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

For me, the point is to start investing. If I were to borrow to start the ventures I'm interested in, then it'd be more expensive (no credit history at all, not even a bad one!) as the interest would be larger than the inflation reduction of the debt. Additionally, I have not completed the research I want to do so the act of saving is giving me time to educate myself to what I can and can't do, what I should and shouldn't do and what I want to specialise in or diversify.
A lesser but still important factor for me is that my mum (whom I live with) may lose her job soon. I would prefer to have the money to hand to take on the bills than rely on credit that is more expensive and I may not even be able to get. (please note, I have been arguing with my mum since gaining employment about me taking on some of the bills regardless of her employment situation but she refuses everytime. I am really trying to not bum off my mum!)
My savings:
I haven't been spending very much this week, but this isn't by choice. I've been very ill so haven't been doing anything! I'm so bored! The snow might mean my plans next week might be cancelled too! Plus my work has paid for my lunch all week long, sweeeeeeet. So I have spent only on my phone bill (£28) and train tickets to work (£12ish). At the best payday I will pop half of what's left from december's pay into my ISA.
Thinking about setting up a regular saver at £50 or 100 a month as well. Is anyone doing this? Good or bad experiences?0
