I've kept my totals up to date but not been contributing to the thread much, great to see everyone doing so well!!!

I've reached the stage where my original target now seems unachievable. I've managed to clear off a couple of debts which has meant that I haven't contributed as much to my savings as I would have liked.

I either need to revise my target amount down to a more realistic (but still stretching) level of £7,000 (currently at £5,350) or keep the original target of £10k and include my pension contributions this year which I originally said I wouldn't include....

Suppose it doesn't actually matter either way but it seems like cheating to revise my target now :o

I wouldn't worry at all about the TARGET. I had a target of £13K, it looks like I'll be lucky to get £5K but hey ... I don't lose anything for not reaching the target, no one is measuring me against a scale.

The point I'm happy with is this time last year my savings were zero, this year they might be £5K. WIN.

£978.24 tucked away in savings to start off a wet and windy November :D

I've been behind target on this challenge pretty much since day one ... but November will be the month that I finally get ahead of the game :T

£305 more tucked away today, so i'm just £9.38 behind target now :D

Another £92.81 this month would take me to £12k though, so i'm going to target that before December - not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but will take a bit of scrimping and saving to get there as i've already banked every spare penny I can find this month. Will have a rummage down the back of the sofa to see what I can find :)

Don't worry, just go for whatever works for you - i've changed the way I count this challenge several times already :A Would be up to £23.3k by my original rules, but decided that as more than £10k went to repay debt and £1k will eventually get spent on something else I can't count either

Opened a new bank account today for a new era. New me. None of this spending money on rubbish and throwing it away. Locking my cash into a fixed ISA for a fee years as I will not need it and planning on opening a regular saver aswell. Need to get back on track. Xmas soon and hasn't bought a present yet. I also have 2 big massive holidays next year so I need to save for that aswell.

I have also traded in my luxury car for a small cheap desiel. Want to be hitting 10-12k by the end of 2014!

    Hi all

I've been missing from this thread for a couple of months. I had a long holiday in September and then I was away in relation to work for a week in October. I had so much to do at other times, that I didn't have time to keep up with the thread, and also I hadn't added up my spending and savings, which were a bit erratic due to holiday costs, etc. But I did continue to do my best with saving in between times, and I track everything I spend on my phone, so it was just a case of finding time to add things up and enter in my spending spreadsheet. I've done that now - so that when I get to the end of December I'll be able to see where money has gone over the full year - and how good a fit with year start budget setting. I already know that I've spent a lot more on health and dentists this year than I'd anticipated. But other things, like energy spending, won't be clear until I've got the full years bills in.

I managed to save £821.60 in September and £685.90 in October. I'm really pleased with these amounts as I've not as much money coming in now as I had at the beginning of the year. My self-employed work has really dropped off. So that gives me a total of £10243.09 saved so far this year. It will be challenging for me to be able to get this total up to £12000 by the end of the year, but I plan to give it a go. I've already achieved the £8000 personal target I set for this year, but if I can save the full £12000 I will have saved up next years ISA allowance in advance. I'll try and catch up with reading everyone's posts as I'm sure it will give me some added encouragement.

So I have comfortably saved over £300 this month already but I put some more stuff on fleabay, including my last Barbie doll *sniff*, so hoping for nearer £400 this time next week. That £5000 target is getting closer :)

Dad's birthday on Thursday and I was supposed to be travelling down to London to celebrate; unfortunately my OH is very unwell and is having trouble walking around, so I can't leave her. Dad was mightily put out when I told him I couldn't make it. I feel really guilty but she really isn't well and can't be left overnight. :( Hopefully I can get down before Xmas though.

I was thinking about this challenge today and have already started planning to do it again next year. It's surprising how I have changed from a spender to a saver in only 12 months!

Keep going everyone, we're in the last stretch now!

  • Is there going to be another challenge of this for 2014?
I won't be able to make £13,000 but I'd like to try and get £500 by December 2014 & £1000+ by December 2015.
