As Geoffers4 has mentioned, please don't be put off with people like myself and others, who may have higher saving targets and differing circumstances. You are all doing very well and every amount you save, no matter how small you think it is, adds up . RoxRoxBling - £500 per month saving is excellent. It is certainly a lot more than what I could manage to save when I first started saving; I could barely save £3000 a year.

I am very fortunate this year to be working in a job where I am being paid over twice what I'm normally paid and where large parts of my living costs are also being reimbursed. Hence the reason why my savings target is higher this year.

Please keep up the good work and good luck to you all with your savings.

Slightly late posting June, but off to update the front sheet.

Good news - I got £1,060 interest from savings waiting to be spent on a house! :T

Bad news - my cat needed surgery which cost £1,200

So ..... managed to save about the same as usual of £1,280 so not too bad :D Feeling happy (and surprised) to hit the half way point just about at target.
I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

Just updated savings for the last couple of months. I've declared £2,580 for June and July combined, so far, taking me to £6,930. It's still shy of 50% of my target of £15k so I'm going to have some work to do as I want to exceed that target.

We just moved into our home and are overpaying our mortgage by £500 a month (maximum allowed) and also buying the miscellaneous odds and sorts for a new house.

Curtains, moving costs, dishwasher etc are so expensive! We bought ready made curtains from Dunelm Mill which were a tad too long but we received a sewing machine as a wedding present so I was taking the lengths up myself. Make do and mend, all the way!

Really so encouraged by all the fantastic work everyone on here is saving. It's great to see that everyone on here is taking responsibility for our own financial wellbeing.

I wish I could save as much as some of the posters here but large or small - everyone's saving attempts are really inspiring. Keep up the good work!

  • As posters keep saying all circumstances are different the good thing is we are all on a savings thread trying to better ourselves and not live payday to payday all the time. I have been paid twice in July already and that's just my own jobs, got a pay from employer this Friday which along with 2 weeks wages will include 3 weeks holiday pay....5 weeks wages at once is exactly what I need to boost this savings amount! At £6,000 end of June I'd say its up about £500 since then ready to add £2,500 on Friday to get me upto £9,000. Looking forward to getting above £10k! And will keep it there!! Already planning on doing this again next year which if I hit this years target twice I will be absolute delighted!!

  • £480 for me this month. Holiday payment time over the next couple of months so a bit lower than normal for this month and the next. Still putting in my monthly amount for my cash ISA to max the cash element out this year though.

£4830 so far at the half way stage so slightly below the £6K target but fingers crossed for a bonus at work later in the year to boost it back up.

I'm not declaring this month - as explained earlier on, my teeth had different ideas this month so I've lumped my dental bill on the credit card pending a fee free 0% balance transfer deal.

Instead I used the £500 saved so far to clear the previous balance from my normal c/card together with the £300 I would normally have added to my savings. Since doing that I've already trickled £200 back into the savings account but may need to borrow some of it back before we get to the next pay day, I also counted £90 in my £2 savers jar. Bearing in mind I spent £150 this week towards our August holiday, and our TV license was up for renewal, I think I've juggled things reasonably well. I plan to reinstate the £500 savings over the next couple of months and will then start adding to it again.

Is it cheating if I count my half of the money my sister and I are saving as a maintenance fund should anything unexpected bills arise at the house? :rotfl:

In June I saved £450 and from my calculations I reached my target! :T:T:T Now I've reached both my rainy day and sunny day targets.

So will I be upping my target? No, I've now reached the amount of money I need. But I may be back in the future to save for a roof extension.

In addition to my 12K in 2013 savings I save for holidays, annual bills like transport costs and presents. And I will continue to do so. I have a few expensive months ahead of me then I intend to throw the extra money at the mortgage. :T
