I've been a bit lack in updating, but I still have been saving and so far I have £950. It's not anywhere the £6000 I was hoping for but Maternity pay is alot harder to save. I know I can save even though I have less money, so when I go back at the end of July I'm hoping to put more away. I've updated on the form.
Oh and I only count my savings that I've put in my savings account. I have been paying of my CC as well with extra money as well as putting a bit away, so I don't consider that savings.Former Debt free wannabe. Now trying to save for a rainy day!0 -
Been working a lot of overtime lately due to work being busy. Getting excited as I shall potentially add £600 to my savings this month, and achieve my target for the year by the end of July. :jSave 12K in 2013, #203.

Thanks BBB for your excellent post - so many money-saving ideas there! I could only add a few other thoughts:
Petrol - I do a lot of commuting miles, so accelerate slowly and drive at a steady speed to keep the fuel bills down.
Going out - we set a budget for this, rather than just splurging on take-aways and pub meals too much.
Lunches - take a packed lunch to work rather than buying sandwiches, and drink tap water rather than buying bottles. This saves huge amounts over a period of time.
Think 'reduce' - more of an attitude of mind this, to just look for how we can reduce consumption generally - switch off lights, turn down heating, hang thick curtains to keep in the warmth during winter, etc.
Keep saving everyone!Save 12k in 2013-2014-2015-2016-2017-2018-2019-2020-2021-2022 - then early-retired.0 -
Hello all.
Exciting times - just cleared off my loan and the savings can now really begin! I have an appointment with my bank on Friday to discuss opening an ISA... not really sure which one I should be looking at. :S
The plan is to start with a small amount in the ISA, keeping a pot of money in a different savings account for emergenices (we have 3 bunnies but none have insurance, so we need a pot for vet bills), then our current account for bills...I'd love to be able to get my utility bills down but I'm not sure it's going to happencurrently paying £80 p/m on my gas alone!

Well done! Remember not to just go with your usual bank's best ISA - look at other banks too. Santander quite often have the best rates, but bad customer service so weigh up what you want out of it.
If you're not going to max your ISA limit in one year then don't worry so much about having an emergency pot because you could take what you need out of easy-access ISAs (this all depends on how much you save in a year though - e.g. you know you can only save £4k, you put £3k in but need to take £1k out for emergencies, you can still add another £1k later because the limit is over £5k).6k in 2012: £4200.00/£6000.00

Thanks guys!
I have a current account with Santander, although I did ask for it to be closed a while ago. Their customer service really is awful.
I'm with Yorkshire Bank and they are really lovely, very helpful. Figure it's worth seeing what they have and having a proper chat with someone! ISAs confuse me I have to say0 -
just had some good news at work, a lovely tax rebate winging its way to me, due to someone mistyping a year when they added me to the system, looking forward to the extra £600 for the savings!Save £12k in 2014 Member 81 £1930.23/£50000

Thanks G4;
We do those other things you do too!
Savings may be suspended as we have holiday and car MOT coming up in July. Our car is 14 years old now, so, keeping everything crossed it's ok, and it can get us on our camping trip!
Keep up the good work all
