Well so far in April I have paid £250 into my regular saver and opened an ISA before the deadline paying in £1,250 (better to get something in).
My total is now £3,000 which I am chuffed about. I am still waiting on expenses back from work which is just shy of £1,000 and this will be added to my pot.
I'm 30 next February. I'm going to challenge myself to really save hard this year. Anything over my original £10,000 target will be spent on a present for myself.
I want to buy something that will be roughly the same age as me that I can enjoy but also see as a bit of an investment. Initial thoughts were some sort of jewellery, diamonds or gold etc. But I am now thinking of a classic car. This should keep me motivated! £3k would be an ideal amount I reckon0 -

Minme is worth zilch as i am only second year in just - and first year in my private pension half went on fees etc. I happen to know mine meticulously because every penny counts lol. I agree it is a huge gamble as paper really is worth nothing. but for me, it was to make sure my soon to be husband would be left something if i died as the rest of my money is tied up in a trust.
Thanks, but regardless of how much my employer & I have put in for however long or not, I don't count purely as I'm not relying on it as it wont be worth enough as I was working & paying tax for about 10 years before I was offered a company pension & over the years Pensions have had a lot of negative outcomes for people who paid in all their lives and still have to sell their homes etc to live plus I dont like it on the markets either, I have no trust in bankers!TARGET Deposit for my 1st house!:A NEED£30k:eek: WANT£45k GOT 1stDRegSaver:£1200@ 6% GROSS 1/10/15||SantanderISA:£11,820.41 @ 2.30% 16/04/16| Newcastle BS ISA:£15,149.80 @ 3.02%|Santander123 Cashback earnings: £274.48|TotalCashSavings:£32,302|Last Update:22/2/15:T

Hi,
This thread looks intriguing, how does it work if i've bought a car or something which i was saving up for?
Personally I would save for these separately from your "no touching savings" or longer term savings (not necessarily locked away without access)
That way it's easier to manage and see what your saving for what.
Also, if you are saving for things like car insurance or new laptop e.t.c, it might be worth making regular savings in a regular savings account with a 'decent' interest rate % for these items but making the purchase's on a 0% credit card - credit history permitting and you don't already have debts with interest accruing to pay off!
Have a look here for information, but we warned you have to be VERY ORGANISED to do this without you being worse off!
