OK. Got paid yesterday and have taken the plunge of paying into mine and hubby's ISAs now - £549 into each.

I've done and redone the finances and think we will get through to payday fine but I had to get those payments in before 5th April to not hamper next year's ISA savings.

April is an expensive month for us - 10 birthdays of which 8 are close family members so it's cards and presents and 1 of which is DS2 so parties to fund as well. And then of course Easter gets thrown into the mix so eggs to buy.

To be honest, most of the spending is done. All the close family is coming round next Sunday for DS2's birthday so I make sure all cards and presents are ready to hand out then.

And this year two of the birthdays are 30ths for DH's brother and for his other brother's wife (both on the same day) and it's DH 40th in May so I'm busy buying presents for that.

It's all go but for once, all budgeted for! :D

I find saving less motivating than when I was paying off debt, strangely! I think it is because when I was clearing our debt there was an end in sight and each debt that I cleared was a motivator.

How long have you been debt free lbnblbnb? I felt totally flat when I became debt free. I was waiting for that euphoric moment that I expected and it just didn't happen. I started saving a little bit right away but it took me over a year before I started getting a similar feeling from saving as I did from paying off debt. 16 months down the line I now get that buzz even when I put my 89p a week into my savings account and I love it! :D

Payday tomorrow! I don't want to wish Sunday away but I am looking foward to transferring some money to savings :)

Since October, so 5 months. Interesting to hear you have got the buzz back, good for you! I think it will be a slow burn thing for me, once emergencies occur and I can deal with them without going into debt etc. I do already feel so much more secure, no waking at 4am thinking what if....? Well, not about money anyway!

  • Another transfer over today, £55 shifted so upto just over £3,125 now! Long way to go but slowly getting there! I will be stashing the money away in stages! Once i hit certain landmark goals! £4,500 (which should be in next 3 weeks!) £9,000, then whatever is saved above that will stay withn reach!! I would aim to hit £9,000 by July then anything after that i have access to if i need it. Aim is £20k but being honest if i hit £15,000 along with all the work im doing to my house, i will be delighted!! And it would get it out the way so i have no work needing done next year so £20,000 will be alot more realistic for 2014!!

Another £100 into work's share scheme today and, following various banking problems over the past few weeks, £100 in small notes and £1 coins hidden (literally) under the mattress. It's a long slog but I'm still hoping to hit the target by November.

I did pay £2,500 off the credit card today too :-) Lowest balance there in quite a few years!

citizen kitten - debt free. Well done you must be so proud and relieved.

Nice to see some good amounts been saved.
Have paid £200 into savings today which takes me to 54% of my target this year.

54%! WOOWZER! we are not even 1/3 way through the month.

i am indeed proud and relieved, so glad to pay my car insurance in one! just shows though, you need to want it to make it happen.

Been paid £178.19 interest :-) so have transferred over £328.81 to make this month's contribution £500.... £3100 total for 2013 so far so have hit the halfway mark in March!

Got roughly £700 left to pay into the ISA but don't think I'll manage to fill it - maybe another £300 in if i'm lucky!

considering asking for a pay rise... any tips?!

    Hi,

Don't be too hard on your mum. She was born in a different time and I bet she does appreciate you in her own way. My mum also often made inappropriate remarks, but has chilled as she got older. There is hope :D:D:D:D:D:D!

Payday today so another £1,000 into the pot.
