Homemade Christmas Crackers

We're planning on making our own Xmas crackers this year, we never use the tat that comes in expensive pre made ones so I've just ordered some cracker snaps from amazon, I'll use wrapping paper and card to make the actual cracker then make some hats out of coloured tissue paper (I'm crafty so have loads lying around!).
Handwritten jokes and a small gift in the cracker!
Has anyone done this before? Any tips or suggestions are welcome!

I did it one year, and I put in body shop soaps for the girls, and chocolate treats for the kids, and I had mini Aftershaves in a set for the men. They all loved the crackers.Saving 2.00 coinsGrocerys set to 40.00 pwBeing Thrifty0

It'll be much better than a random keyring or a mini screwdriver set! Get them every year I must have tons lying around the house!
I was thinking of putting in the lego figures that you can get for £1, you don't know which ones you're buying but it'll still add surprise!0 -
we bought a make your own cracker from tesc0s with the idea that we buy something cheap but fun - now I have no idea what to put in it. Was thinking of a scratch card instead of a joke and then something little exra as the "prize" so this thread should hopefully inspire me!Life is what you make it.0

Places like Hawkins Bazaar are quite good for little pick n mix toys, i'm not sure if they're still arond though as I haven't been into town for a while! Scratchcards are a good idea for adults, will definitely do that!
Or maybe find some cheap minature bottles of booze like you get on planes :beer:0 -

There are 12 in a pack and they're perfect size to put in a cracker!0 -
