Very smelly carpet everytime it gets wet help

Hi, I have a habit of spilling or knocking over (fresh) water. If I do it downstairs we put kitchen roll or towel on it and tread it until its dry and then it's fine. My bedroom carpet however is a different story, no matter or how little water gets split on it and no matter how hard we try and sort it out (last time with towels and then a hair dryer) it still gets such a strong horrible sweet damp smell, it makes me feel so sick and stays for ages. We try bicarb, carpet cleaner/washing and then drying very well, different ways to make sure it's dry but it still stinks. If my door is open you can smell it downstairs! I end up having to chuck a big towel over it to try and contain the smell.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can win the war my carpet and I are in? Thanks

Do you need water in your bedroom to be in a knock-overable container? I like water by my bed, but use a bottle with a sports top (washed and refilled) as I know I would knock it over when half asleep.

If you always spill water in a similar place could you put a mat over the carpet there?

As above, don't take water into the bedroom. If you have to take a drink to bed use a plastic bottle with a screw top. Eliminate the cause.

I have a carpet like that! its pure wool and I tell people I know it is, as I can smell the sheep dip when it gets wet! its awful!
The only solution is not to get it wet!
try using kids 'sippy' cups - they are designed not to spill when knocked over!
  • Stop spilling water?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
