Clean a smoking grill top oven

Hi can anyone help my grill and top oven I cannot use as it smokes so badly when I try I have cleaned the oven and wiped down the element but it is still a problem help what can I do thanks

    Have you tried opening all the windows, turning the grill on to its highest setting and just leaving it on until the grill stops smoking? It sounds like you have got some fatty food deposits on the element and the only way you will get rid of them is to burn them off. Keep the kitchen door shut while you do this to minimise the smell to the rest of the house.

    We've just bought a new cooker and I deliberately bought one with a grill which is separate from both ovens, as we have had this problem before where the grill and top oven is combined.

    Thanks for reminding me OP. I had the same problem last night when I turned the oven on to keep things warm while cooking the tea.
    Kitchen full of smoke, window open and extractor going, not very mse!
    Remembered why I went back to dry frying bacon...
    The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

    I've had this prob with 2 ovens in rentals I've taken on and to be honest I've given up trying to sort it. £35 and a professional oven cleaner in for half hour and its sparkling. Not v MSE but time is money also
