iPad vs Kindle Fire advice pls, thanks.

Hello people :D

I won £500 vouchers and earmarked it for the children's Christmas presents :)

I was planning to buy an iPad for my 11 year old son so he can surf the net but particularly so he can use it for his homework.

Now, I have won a Kindle Fire :j and understand you can go on the net on it too :)

Should I give him the Kindle or still buy the iPad for him? Or simply buy him a laptop? Every suggestion welcome.

Thank you :)

  • Personally if it was me and I wanted it for homework I would say the lap top so that you will be able to use things like Microsoft word to write assignments etc on. Can't imagine that would be easy om an IPAD or kindle.

Keep the kindle for yourself :D

Thanks both. The iPad mini I had espied cost £269.00 in Argos. I have now seen this laptop ASUS X501U-XX039H 15.6" Laptop - White

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/asus-x501u-xx039h-15-6-laptop-white-17056517-pdt.html from pcworld and it costs £269.99 so only a pound difference :D

    Thanks once again.

  • Kindle is designed to read books on. Yes the fire has internet on but probably no better than a current smart phone and i wouldn't let kids use a phone to do homework on

Ipad and kindle are more for entertainmet than practical purposes in my eyes

I would certainly not see an iPad as a replacement for a laptop. I won an iPad and for games or checking emails it's great, but I couldn't cope with comping or anything major on it. It's really just a large smartphone without the phone facility. You can't use USBs or discs with an iPad either.

My 'new IPad' is fantastic for games, email, internet browsing, texting and video calling but its an addition to the laptop, definatley not a replacement.

For homework use the laptop is definatley the best bet.
