  • I simmered them once in a pan of water with a stock cube added it worked quite well, would it be easier to make two mixes one with and one without and pop them all in the slow cooker?

  • Just boil in water. You can do this with plain ones and serve as a pud with syrup too!

You could cook just in water but it might make them taste a bit bland.
You could just make a few plain ones prior to adding the herbs and cook all in the same slow cooker (but then you would have to be able to see which was which) or make up a tasty gravy (that can be frozen and used later) to simmer hers in on top of the cooker.

Drop into the bubbling beef stock/gravy, cover and simmer for 25 to 30 minutes or until light and well puffed up.
Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.

Personally I'd make up some with herbs and some without and cook them all together. Any marginal taste of herbs that spread to the stew shouldn't be a big issue.

What I have done though (when no room in pot) is ladle some of the liquid out of the stew into a separate saucepan ad cook the dumplings in there on the hob.
  • Did you know you can bake them - crispy fluffy suet pudding is yum, do it in a shallow Pyrex dish

I used to do sweet baked dumplings for the kids - many moons ago! Great with jam or syrup. Kids loved 'em.

You can also cook them in the microwave. Tried it and it worked when I once forgot to add them to the stew.

How do you cook them in a microwave - in water?
I add dried sage and onion mix to mine for a real tasty flavour.
