    I know it adds more interest in the long run but if there is no other way to make it affordable what about consolidating your debts so you have a lower monthly payment?

    The Op's current debt is too high as a percentage of earnings for them to secure a consolidation loan.

    OP, what are the limits on each card? I know the general consensus is to pay the highest APR debts first but, if there's a very high limit on one of the lower APR debts, it may be worthwhile paying it off first, closing it and retrying for a 0% balance transfer (after a giving it a couple of months for the account closure to filter through to your credit report).

    I tried to get a consolidation of all my NatWest loans (loan/credit card/overdraft) but they wouldn't accept me. looks like nobody wants to accept me for anything as I have so much debt which really isn't helpful of them!! I don't know whether there is any companies/banks I could go to to consolidate every loan together that is likely to accept people like me?

    I feel like I've tried so hard to pay money off over the last 4-5 years and I just don't seem to be getting anywhere. At one point I was just putting more and more on credit but now I am at the stage of paying it off and not getting more into debt. Really trying not to let that happen again if I can.

    Your grocery spend is very good :)

    Is your council tax over 10 months or 12? Reduces your monthly outgoings if 10.

    I use a couple of survey sites too, find it helps with presents.

    Do you have anything you could put on eBay? Or do a car boot sale?

    The halifax card is cancelled to stop the interest rate going up. The other two are pretty much at their maximum (£30-£100 available credit on each). I'm paying the minimum payments but often I end up having to spend the small amount I have paid off to get by each month :(

    My council tax is over 10 months - well spotted! So yes that reduces it a little. Thanks for that!

    I already ebay things but ebay seems a lot slower to get sales than it used to. This week I only sold 3 out of 15 items which was disappointing. Listed 32 items this weekend so heres hoping!

    If anybody is wondering how the hell I got a mortgage, the deposit was a loan from my dad to be paid back when I sell the house so I don't actually have much equity myself in my house yet. The deposit money for our future house will be coming from my boyfriend so I don't need to worry about saving for the time being, just paying off as much debt as I can to hopefully be able to get a joint mortgage with him in a few years.
  • Looks like you'll either have to:
    • take on a part-time job;
    • sell the house and rent;
    • sell the car and buy a cheaper one until you get back on your feet.... a scooter is dirt cheap to run but may not suit?;
    • take in a lodger again and hope it's a better experience than last time

    Otherwise, it looks like you'll go further and further into debt.

    Regarding a lodger:

    If you don't want to feel over-committed, can you offer the room on a short term-basis (weeks rather than months) to places that need TEMPORARY accommodation.

    e.g. student teachers on teaching placement, health professional students on hospital/community placements, language school students. Then even if you get people who aren't really on your wavelength it doesn't matter too much as it's time-limited. And you'd get some weeks/months to yourself. You won't be maximising the income from the room, but you'll be getting something. Perhaps this is the right sort of compromise?

    And people on these sorts of temporary placements possibly won't have so much 'stuff' as it's not their main home. And they might even go home at weekends sometimes!

    What part of the country are you in?
    Though people doing vocational courses (teaching, health, vetinary studies, library/IT studies etc.) don't necessarily get posted on placemens near where they're studying - could be anywhere.
    My own training based in Exeter involved placements in Truro, Gloucester, Bristol and Wanstead in London!
    Try contacting universities offering e.g. PGCE (postgrad techer training) courses ... The Accommodation Officer will do all the sorting out.
