Uniform/Laundry Tax

Hubby applied for the uniform/laundry tax rebate a few weeks ago, today he got a letter saying his new tax code has changed (£65 was added to allowance) and in the notes it says
HM Revenue & customs has agreed with the union that £65 is the amount you are likely to have to pay out for doing this job. You do not have to be a member of the union to get this.
Then another £418 is added on to allowance (earlier years adjustment) and the note says
This refers to tax you have overpaid in previous years. Please contact us if you need further information.
Do you think the £418 is the backdated laundry amount (shouldn't it have came in a cheque) or is it for something else. He hasn't received any other letters.

Yeah it will be, you can always ring, get them to remove it from the code and send a cheque.
