Is this OK to use?

Options
Inventoried the freezers yesterday - and needless to say, I'm now trying to work my way through the mountain of stuff that somehow seems to have found it's way into them!:o

Anyway - found a big pack of Turkey that DM has obviously given me to bring home after last Christmas (it's def 2011 & not older!:rotfl:).

Have taken out to defrost & intention is to make curry.

Just wanted to confirm that it'll be OK to use being in there that long?

Ohhh - another quick question :o - providing it is OK .... has anyone made Turkey curry in a SC?

I have tried making chicken curry in it before but it seemed to go very dry for some reason ... any suggestions?

TIA:)

It will be fine if it's been frozen. Food doesn't go off in the freezer but it can lose a bit of texture and taste if it's been exposed to air and get freezer burn.

If it's breast meat then I often find it to be a bit dry if done in the slow cooker. If it's been previously cooked, I would make the curry sauce and add the turkey at the last minute then heat until piping hot otherwise it can be a bit stringy.

As Pink says, it will be alright to use. Not done my curries in a SC, but usually I defrost my meat then fry it off, then add the curry sauce and simmer through until it hot. Usually about 20 minutes!

  • Brilliant - thanks both.

No freezer burn evident at all (quite unusual for my freezer!) and it's looking pretty good!

I think I'll just make on the hob as I do with the chicken ones now .... just to be on the safe side!
