Getting a Loan for a UK Student at a Spainsh Uni
                    Hi All,
I am looking to go to Uni at a Chiropractic College over in Spain becuase of the high quality of the course but as far as I can see there are no real government grants/loans available. As the course is over 5 years, I have done a budget and can get £50k of the money but I will potentially have to borrow another £50k over the term. Does anyone have any ideas how I can raise this funding or gaining loans that can be delayed until I qualify??
Thanks in advance,
Rob

Probably the only people willing to entertain this would be the bank of mum and dad.
£50k is an enormous amount of money to take out to study in a different country and I cannot see any responsible bank taking this risk on you - sorry.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
if you are an eu resident. then if its a proper degree course the course fees should be paid by the Spanish government. as we would pay for a spanish student here. in relation to maintenance why would you need that much. borrowing or spending a 100k for a course that you can get in the uk seems odd. no matter how much better it is can it be that much better.0

Have you tried for EU grants like Erasmus which are specifically for study?0

Really? When English students don't. Why is that?0 -

Erasmus is only for time spent abroad as part of a UK degree (in the case of a UK based student). You must do at least a year of the course in the UK first. It is not intended to totally fund a course overseas.Have you tried for EU grants like Erasmus which are specifically for study?
Also the subjects covered by Erasmus are fairly limited. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
EU nationals must be charged the same fees as a Host nation student. Anyone coming to England from the EU must pay no more than £9000 )or whatever the uni charges UK students). A British student must be charged no more than a Spanish student in Spain. etc.
As for whether the host country must provide the same financial assistance I am not sure. AFAIK student loans are offered to EU students here.0 -
As I understand it in Spain (daughter just completed an Erasmus year there) they don't get any assistance for accomodation resulting in the majority going to a local uni or one where they have relatives that they can live with.
Might be worth reading http://www.spainexpat.com/spain/information/universities_in_spain/ for some insight into the Spanish university systemThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Yes, it leads to the rather odd anomaly that Spanish students would have their fees paid in a Scottish university but English students wouldn't. But Spanish students wouldn't get their fees paid in England.
Are you guarenteed a job after your course? And do people employing chiropractors know this is the best course? This is rarely the case in my experience - people doing recruiting left education 20 years earlier and generally have no idea what the most prestigious courses are. I find it hard to believe this area is any different0
