Mortgage - surveyors HELP!

Hi,
We're currently trying to purchase our rented bungalow. We're concerned that as it isn't reg building materials (metal and breeze block) we will struggle to get a mortgage. I know the standard advice is 'don't go there'!! But we love it here, can't find anything else and are crazy enough to take a risk!
We can't get a mortgage with out a valuation but don't want to pay a surveyor to do the valuation only to find that the narrow range of banks we may have to work with do not accept the valuation from the chosen surveyors and we have to pay twice :(
Is there a surveyor that most banks use? If not, which surveyors do the banks that might lend to us use?
There has never been a mortgage for this property so we're unable to find an obvious choice.
Please help - I want a home - I need to nest.

Many thanks

You need to find a lender which lends on such construction types first. Once you've established that, you make an application for a mortgage and the lender sends its choice of surveyor to carry out the mortgage report and valuation.

You can normally have the same surveyor do a more in-depth survey, like a homebuyer's report, at additional expense to you, but without some of the double charging you'd find if you used two different surveyors.
