You may need to define a bit about your circumstances and get some free help here first.
Reason I say this is because if everything is clean on your credit files, decent deposit and no issues around income/employment then you may be better off taking on one of the national no fee mortgage brokers.
If your situation is more specific or you want an independent mortgage broker, then you may pick up a referral from here although I personally do not know anyone in your geographic area.
I assume you have already asked friends/family for a referral of someone credible as this is often the best source of introduction..

First time buyer, good credit/deposit/income etc...
I have considered calling London and Country, but thought that the face to face, personal route might be more sensible.

Good stuff.
Some people do prefer the personal touch, which so long as you are happy to pay for this then you are likely to get a better service face to face and if independent you are likely to get a better product..
