All my text disappeared when I inserted that pic and I can't edit it back in.
Asus provide a cable with a central core surrounded by the other bare wire, so when the insulation breaks a short circuit is formed; mine started smoking. Comet aren't interested in the fire hazard they sold me, so I want to know the safest repair method. The charger casing will not come apart.0 -
you can get a replacement for around a tenner
its fixable but If you are asking on the forum,I wouldn't bother TBH0 -
Yes it is repairable, but to do so you would havd to open up the casing, and de-solder the brojen pieces of cable and then solder the other cable onto the board. If you thought it was a fire hazard before, just imagine what an opened psu is going to be like.
So for the sake of £10 of so, is it worth the risk.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
OK I won't open the casing, and I have that length of wire that's covered by the rubber thing to play with so I can reconnect the wire; does that rubber covering just pull off with pliars? What sort of connnector should I use? I 'd be better off with one with a flat end that I can glue to the casing to prevent more bending.Yes it is repairable, but to do so you would have to open up the casing, and de-solder the broken pieces of cable and then solder the other cable onto the board. you will find no wire in the rubber grommit, you will also have problems opening the psu as it will be friction welded. Buy a new one and stay safe0

Depending on how they have fitted the shroud, it may be moulded around the cable or pushed through. So if you do manage to remove it ok, it will give about an inch at most to strip back the cables. I wouldn't use any connectors, i would strip back enough cable, place heatshrink over each cable and another over the main cable. solder the individual cables, cover with the heatshrink and shrink it.
Another way is to remove it from casing, buy new ABS power supply casing (same size) and place it within that, but time you have bought it, messed around, it may end up costing same as new psu.
But as said before, is it worth the risk.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -
