Phone Interview Tips

I have a Phone Interview tomorrow for a pretty big MNC.

Any tips for a successful phone interview?

I've had informal chats about work over the phone before, which is obviously still a hoop to jump through.

  • It's hard as you can't see the NVC's, best advice is to put your personality accross, have a list of things YOU want to say and get them in and be yourself.

    Good luck.

    Non verbal communication
  • Sorry none verbal comms as said. You can't see the eyebrow raising, the nods when it is going well and want more explanation, or the indifference that means, move the convo on please.

It depends what the role is for and what they want from the interview. If it is just to gauge that you aren't an idiot then it will just be a talk about why you applied, what you know about the role etc with all your skills on your CV.

Some phone interviews can be a lot more thorough, competency questions etc.

    Oh right I see.

Yeah I suppose you can't. Will try and put myself across as best I can obviously .
  • As I say make a list of what YOU want to say.

Have you performed a SWOT (strengths, opportunies, Weaknesses and Threats). Do a quick SWOT, jot down your Unique Selling Points, what YOU want to say, what and who you are.

Keep them next to you and try to get them into the interview so they know you are diven, hardworking, reliable etc.

SWOT for the company, is a very good idea, hadn't thought of that.

I've read up on all their employment values and what they look for etc. Plus jotted down a few awards they've won.

Do your own personal traits too, why should they employ you, what VA can you bring etc.

Try (and it's not always possible) to get your USP as a person in to the interview.
