Canny shoppers realised long ago that Tesco isn't the place to be, with its indifferent quality and much higher prices than Aldi and Lidl.

Both Aldi and Lidl beat Tesco and the others hands down on price and quality - but which one's best?

And why?

Cant vote sorry, as you dont have the option 'I use both and they are about the same on quality, value and price'.

tho as Aldi are nearer I tend to shop there more.
  • My decision is made slightly easier by living opposite a large Aldi. It is the most fantastic corner shop! As well as saving me money it saves me time, I can do my weekly shop in minutes as I'm not baffled by offers & different brands. They stock everything we need for fantastic prices and fab service (always open extra tills if a queue forms). I'm very glad I discovered it and have also converted my mum & sister!
  • don't have either stores near me.

Me neither, but I can walk to tesco in 12 minutes, which I really love. Not because I like shopping in Tesco, because I work across the road from tesco.

Ocado's low price promise beats Tesco and Abel & Cole does and amazing range of organic veg. If I have to schlepp to a store rather than have food delivered then my preferences are Waitrose and Lidl.
  • None of the above, I prefer to nip into the local Heron Store. And support my local baker and butcher.

A tragic case of slavish support of a pair of retailers.
Shopping means exploring all options for purchases, assessing goods based on quality and price.
Sure the pair are cheap, but for chicken/lamb they dont stand a chance against my local halal butcher.
The choice is often dire, and the veg/fruit "can" be of dubious quality.
  • I didn't vote as I shop at Aldi but perhaps would also shop at Lidl if I had one nearer! It doesn't warrant a 20 mile round trip to Lidl when it's only a 2 mile round trip to Aldi! And, for what I can't get in Aldi, there is Iceland next door and Sainsbury's just across the road. There is also an Asda but that is another story! I have vowed never to darken their doorstep again!

We don't have an Aldi near us, but Lidl is a 10-minute walk away with a Farmfoods opposite, so I do all my shopping there apart from Costco for catfood. There's a Tesco at the top of our road but I only buy yellow-sticker stuff there if they have something decent. I gather there's a Morrisons being built a 10-minute walk away and they always used to be good for meat, but I don't know what they're like now. I've tried one of the local halal butchers for lamb, and it was dreadfully tough even when done for hours in the crockpot.

I'll shop anywhere where there are bargains. Though I wish there was a B&M nearby as their beer offers tend to be better than what the supermarkets offer. And like others, I don't see much difference in quality or price between Aldi and Lidl. Though I do prefer Lidl's plain chow main noodles to Aldi's, so I guess it can depend.

Do tend to a shop mostly in ASDA and Tesco though and find Waitrose and Sainsbury's a bit pricey. I normally only shop in Wiatrose and Sainsbury's if there are bargains to be had.

I'm quite lucky as most of these stores, including Aldi and Lidl, are within 5 or 6 miles of me.
