Buying direct from the farm, good value?

Local farm doing a veg box with six veg for £10
And their meat box is £20 for: 1 whole chicken (about 2kgs)
2 8oz steaks ribeye
6 sausages
6 rashers of bacon
400g mince
Do you think this is good value? Seems cheaper than our local butcher but not as cheap as getting marked down supermarket meat. Loads tastier though! Worked out that this box will do us (two people) five lunches and 9 dinners
What do you money saving gurus think?

Farm shops are milking it !
Less overheads and no middlemen means they get the highest profit margins .
The ones near me have second rate food at top prices .
Pretending to be green and fresh doesn't always mean better value and quality !0 -
I'd say no the veg box isn't great value as I can get an eight organic gourmet (ie more unusual) veg for £13 and an organic veg bag from Ocado for under £10.
For organic meat I think it would be a good deal but for non organic I don't think so.
Edited to add.. local doesn't mean food is organic or that the red peppers in the farm shop don't come from Spain. It's like farmers putting signs up saying unsprayed fruit at farmers' markets, you've only got their word for it.
Farm shops and farmers' markets are not necessarily cheap and it's like markets generally - unless you pick the tomatoes out yourself you always get soggy ones in the bottom.0 -
So the veg box may not be great value (I have ordered one to see what volume of veg I get) but what do we think of the meat?
Their other prices seem reasonable and I know for a fact that with the meat in any case these are all their own grown animals. I think the prices look good but I am no expert :-)If you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0
