Loosing the plot

Hi All,
haven't posted for ages. My DH was having a go at me forspending too much time on the laptop!
But I need some advice/support as a I feel like I am totally loosing the DFW plot.
Since finding this site and having my LBM in August last year our debts has been reduced from over £22000 to jsut over £8000 at present.
I made loads of changes to our spending and all the debt we have is now in 0% interest.
But it seems to be getting very difficult to avoid spending at present. My DH doesn't see why I am obsessed with becoming debt free.
We had our gate into our side drive blown down in the storms earlier in the year. But to have it repalced we also need to repalce the side fence. We need the gate replaced cos our 2 year old is constantly running out the gate and it's driving me nuts trying to keep an eye on her when she's in the garden.
He went ahead and got quotes on new fencing etc. and included replacing the front drive.
Iknow the quote is good but I am really reluctant to go ahead cos I reckon we could be debt free by the end of the year if we dont do this and next summer if we do it. But he thinks I am being obsessive in saying I need to get debt free asap.
How can i continue on my dfw path and still make my husband happy???

Is there no way you could replace the fencing yourself?0

I work full time with 4 kids. OH works full time too. Both work shifts and usually try to minimise the amount of child care needed by doing opposite shifts. So when he's off he usually has the kids and visa versa. Also he has a back problem at the moment which doesn't help. When i'm off I cook clean wash iron etc.etc.etc. so fencing is difficult to fit in.
I hate the thpught of paying someone to do it but I just can't see how we can do it ourselves within the next few months.
And it's getting a necessity. My oh was cooking dinner today. My mum had to bring the 2yr old inn off the raod twice during that time. Luckily we live in a very quiet cul-de-sac.0 -
In that case I think my priority would be the fence over debt. Look at it from the view of being debt free or your childrens safety. No brainer.0

I think there is more to this than repalcing a frence to be honest. My OH and I just don't seem to have the same priority to become debt free. We have a good income and on paper could easily afford to take on another couple of grand of debt. It would even be possible to do it without paying interest. So he just doesn't see what the problem is.
My problem is that I have not been free of debt since the age of 20. I have always worked full time and trained to be a nurse while I was a single parent of 2. Now I have progressed in my career and have a good salary. But I work terrible hours and travel 45 miles to work. I would like to reduce my hours and spend more time with the kids and he just doesn't see why.
I would love to know if anyone else has come accross these conflicts.0 -

you're probably right. Maybe I could suggest we do the fence without the drive. I know he won't be happy but we will survive without a new drive for another year.0 -

if you go back to the old DFW saying 'do I want it or do I need it' then yes you need a new fence and as for the drive do you need it ?
you have done really well but your childs safety has to come first and as for SS you really make me laugh :rotfl::cool: Official DFW Nerd Club Member #37 Debt free Feb 07 :cool:0
