Old NHS Pension - Rejoin?

Hi,

My wife worked part-time for NHS from 2006 - 2007. She left and went back to study for 5 years. Now she has re-joined the NHS as a midwife. The pension department told her that she could not re-join the old scheme but a friend said she can.
Does anyone have a view of her options?
Many thanks

She cant join the old scheme (which we assume is the 1995 version). The scheme was changed after she left (2008 version). She can still join the NHS scheme but it would be the current version.

You need to speak to NHS pensions, who are very helpful. On the basis of the information you have given, I am sure dunstonh is correct. However, if she remained connected to the NHS during her studying, it may be possible.
However, if she only worked for the NHS 2006-7 she can't have been on the 1995 scheme anyway. So just set out the facts to NHS pensions.

The 2008 scheme was for those after 1st April 2008. The 1995 scheme was for those before. I have assumed that someone with a working period of 2006-2007 would not be in the 2008 scheme but would be in th3 1995 scheme.

The only other thing to consider is whether she built up two years employment and didnt take a refund in 2007 when she left.
