Sorry if I am asking stupid questions, but this is all new to me!
Ive got a 2nd gen I pod touch for DS for christmas. He is 7 and plays on his friends all the time, so Ive only got him a second hand one to see how careful he is with it!
Questions - if I download music from i tunes, can I also use it on the laptop and android tablet? Does itunes work on android?
similarly, can I download from google play or amazon and put these onto itunes to also play on the ipod touch?
as I said, sorry if these are really basic questions
:o

Yes and yes, both sell DRM free music so the files can be played on anything that can play them, iTunes sells music in the AAC format, Google Play, Amazon MP3 sell MP3 format files, both file types are widely supported.
Both iTunes and the iPod as well as Windows, OS X and Android can play them.
You can't use iTunes to automatically sync with Android but you can use it to manually select and copy the files to any USB device in much the same way as copying/pasting files normally is.
Therefore you can buy songs wherever is cheapest, http://www.tunechecker.com/ can help you in that respect although it doesn't have Google Play on there yet.0 -
thanks for the advice.
Ive found home sharing on i-tunes, but cant seem to find it on the i pod touch. Would it be on the 2nd gen version? If not, is it possible to update the ipod?

What are you trying to do?
Home sharing is mainly used to copy files from one iTunes to another iTunes on a different computer so you don't have to use a USB drive.
To put music on the iPod from iTunes you should connect the iPod to the computer using the USB cable.
The highest firmware you can put on the 2nd gen iPod touch is 4.2.1 you can't go any higher than that.0 -
Sorry - I thought I needed to use homeshare to access the music on the different devices! I will just use the USB cable to copy them over!
I will get the hang of it soon (hopefully!)

You don't need to install any drivers manually, you have to sync music to an iPod using iTunes, download and install iTunes, plug in the iPod and iTunes will do the rest, you can't drag and drop files onto an iPod like you can with other devices.
