Qualityor Quantity?

Hi, We are trying to be more sensible with money now we have realised how much more we spend than we earn! We have cut our food bill alot by buting sainsbury's basics for all our food. I'm not sure when it comes to clothes if it's best to go for quality or quantity?

I have tried clothes shopping in Primark but I find it doesn't usually last 5 mins and we end up having to throw it away. However I sometimes find this happens in more expensive shops as well.

I am thinking Primark might be ok for the children's clothes because they grow out of them so it doesn't matter at much if they last, however I am also concuios of the enviroment and would rather give clothes to someone else if they are still in an ok state when we have finished with them. For me I quite like M&S for most stuff and TK Maxx for the odd discounted designer piece, I also like Aididas and Schuch for shoes. My husband gets most of his stuff from TK Maxx. Although TK Maxx is discounted it's still not always cheap.

What do you think about this? Where do you buy yours and your families clothes and why?

Thanks Lucy:)

Personally for me it's very much horses for courses. I don't spend a huge amount on clothes relatively speaking but as an example I was out shopping last weekend about bought a pair of boots in Primark and a jumper in Hollister.

The boots are very much of a fashion for now look so I don't expect to be wearing them this time next year, whereas the jumper I would expect to last a couple of years.

That said, I've bought a couple of items from Primark previously that have not only lasted ages, but had loads of compliments as well.

I actually told my mum to get a couple of kids gifts in Primark this year were she would normally shop in Monsoon - the kids in question have so much they will barely know who the gift was from, and they grow so quickly there's no need for great longgevity.

I think it's more about knowing what your style is, what you like, trying clothes on and seeing what fits / suits and shopping accordingly (within your means of course)

I love a bargain but I measure this not just by the price of something, but by how many times I wear it. £15 on something that gets worn once, is less of a bargain than £50 on something that gets work 100 times in my book.

  • I prefer clothes from primark. Anything thats expensive I tend to hardly wear because 'it cost alot' which defeats the point of the item.
I would much rather be given/or buy 5 tops from primark, then 1 jumper from monsoon. Personal preference I guess!
