Gift for Mum and Dad

Hi everyone,

I'm really struggling to come up with an idea for my parents for Christmas this year. Last year I sent them off to a vineyard for a couple of nights, with a wine tasting included and that. This year it's proving a little difficult to organise a weekend away, so I was thinking of organising some sort of day out. I thought maybe theatre and afternoon tea, but there's literally nothing on worth seeing in any of the theatres in Swansea lol. I've tried to find chocolate making masterclasses and things along that sort of line, but I can only seem to find places that organise them for large groups.

If anyone has any suggestions it'd really be appreciated!

  • could you take them out for the day to a local beauty spot and treat them to christmas lunch in a nice olde world village pub with a log fire and a christmas menu? most parents would rather spend quality time as a family with their grown up offspring than have things, you could give them an Oxfam gift card at the dinner costing around £20 saying theyve bought a village a source of water or a goat, (serious) ive done this for some of my aunts & uncles and its gone down very well

I have bought a hamper package from the Norfolk hamper company - there is a thread on the food shopping board. You get one hamper in December, which I will give them on the day, and then a different hamper delivered every month throughout the year. A bit like a magazine subscription - except it's edible!

You could get them a ticketmaster voucher, so they can book an event of their choice at a time they prefer? You could make it into a theatre hamper (say, with a theatrical recording on DVD - Phantom at the Royal Albert Hall is good), some pimms / gin and tonic or whatever they prefer to drink, a nice pashmina and a tie (for when they go), some chocolates, that sort of thing?

Thanks for the ideas everyone :)

Perhaps I could make it a whole family thing (well, the family that'll be at home) and we could go to the panto and for food or something. I didn't think they'd particularly enjoy the panto, but if it's all of us it could be a laugh.

The theatre hamper's a lovely idea, although I'm a little wary of giving them vouchers. I did them a film night hamper two or three years ago and the cinema vouchers are still sitting on the mantel piece!

Those hampers sound great...I'm gonna go look at them and drool now...
