Recently appealed against a disciplinary where I was given a Final Written Warning. I appealed against this for a variety of reasons (prefer not to go into them as it could identify me, or maybe I am being paranoid!) and also put in a grievance for harassment and discrimination.
Got result of appeal over phone and warning has been expunged from my record. Havent yet got written reasons.
Question is does this help with grievance or hinder it? Does putting in grievance and appealing FWW effectively end my employment with this company? Will they regard me as a troublemaker? If they uphold the grievance what are their options (and mine) re my continuing in employment with them?

Dear Littlegreenalien
As I understand it the FWW process has ceased. I would request that in writing and confirmation that it is not recorded on any Personnel / HR documentation.
A Grievance is you then taking disciplinary action aganist the company. Quite how employers react to Grievances can be very different according to the professionalism ( how prepared they are to consider criticism even if constructive of managerial colleagues and or their company ) of the individual managers concerned with deciding the grievance and the size of the organisation. Generally the larger the size the more detailed the procedures and the more inbedded they are. This does not necessarily mean that larger organisations are any more systemically professional than smaller ones or that individuals within larger organisations are any more professional. Generally management within smaller businesses have more independence, there is less internal bureaucracy. This can work in an individual's favour if they are infavour with management or not if they are not in favour.
It is a political decision you have to make. What do you want to gain / achieve from a grievance. What do you think you will gain / achieve?
It is unlikely to win brownie points with mgt.
However any grievance, if reasonable should have no bearing on your continued employment with that company.
I believe that you are bringing a grievance because the alleged failing on your part that summoned the FFW was found to be inaccurate. I agree that if someone in effect ' wastes police time' and causes you stress by a deliberately false or inaccurate accusation then they in turn should be 'brought to book'.
If in the highly unlikely situation that you were inturn dismissed simply because you brought a grievance then you would have a very strong case for unfair dismissal.0 -

Thank you very much for your input its in line with what I thought myself but never having done this before wasn't sure.
I brought the grievance as I believe the disciplinary was part of a wider campaign of bullying, harassment and discrimination in order to basically get me out. That they have found in my favour in the disciplinary appeal gives me heart that in part they may have proved my case for me.0 -

Thanks for your comments. Spookily enough I am myself in quite a similar situation and just waiting for the most opportune and timely moment to strike with 2 possibly 3 similar grievances against Line Manager.
Good luck and don't let the bas*ards grind you down0
