Hi I saw this thread "bumped" and read through all of it. I have no advice and I'm new to this forum, but just wanted to show my support and say well done for all your achievements so far! I was heartbroken to read about your postgrad course, Student Finance really should get their act together, I know very few people who haven't had issues with them. It made me so sad just reading about it in your post. But I'm glad you haven't let that bring you down and you're working on great goals.

Yes, it was quite upsetting about the post-grad course, but I'm looking on the bright side of things and at least it has given me the push to move to a much nicer area, even if the moving process has cost a small fortune! If you don't like where you are - move. You are not a tree.0 -
Good Evening...
Weekly update time:
Well I have now finished my full-time office job, had my last day on Friday, but they didn't seem to want to loose me completely so have made me an offer... they have asked if I can go onto a 0-hour contract and do some admin tasks from home in the evenings on an ad-hoc basis. No indication as to how many hours, but I'm guessing it would only be a few per month. Providing I'm up front and honest with HMRC, the local council etc. this shouldn't be a problem should it? I'm hoping it could be a chance to earn a few extra pennies occasionally (not to mention boosting the CV and maintaining contacts which could be beneficial in later career life). I've also been in to sign my contract with my new (part-time) employer. Little bit cautious as the contract doesn't state a fixed number of hours but they have assured me I will get between 16-24 per week. Keeping my fingers crossed they stick to their word. I know someone else who has been working for them for a couple of years and haven't heard anything about them messing people around in this respect, so hopefully all should be ok.
I thought I may have overspent a bit over the last couple of weeks (I have bought a lot of reduced chicken in tesco - it's not something we get very often as chicken has become very expensive, but I wanted to make the most of the reductions), but having just sat down and tott-ed up some sums I'm within the budget I had set myselfIt looks like overall there will be more money going out than coming in this month as I'll have two weeks when I'm not working (finished one job on Friday, start the next at the beginning of Feb), but I started the month in a fairly good position bank-balance wise (thanks to receiving money instead Christmas presents from my lovely family), so things should all still end up in the black.
I've changed my mobile contract down to SIM only, which should help with the outgoings, saving £23.40 per month, and I've cancelled my ex-s iPad contract as well :j:j:j, which will save a further £32 per month.
Overall it's been a good week. Looking forward to my time off now, hoping to enjoy lots of relaxed quality time with my little one, and give the house and garden a good spring clean.
Speak to you same time next week

Hello...
End of month update time. Well I've had a couple of weeks off between finishing my old job and starting my new one, which has been great for spending time with my little one and catching up on all sorts of little jobs, but I've strayed far away from the budgetwith 'extra' purchases including a lawn mower (so I don't have to pay someone else to do it
), sensible shoes for work, mum's birthday present and some other bits and pieces. It's not all doom and gloom though, I've had an extra money from cashback and 'found' some money in my paypal account from something that was refunded before Christmas.
Total Monthly Income: £1,908 (expected £1,850)
Total Monthly Expenditure: £2,414 (expected £2,125)
** 5 Point Plan **
Pay off overdraft - paid £20 off £165
Pay off fam loan - paid £50 off £2,350
Save for training - saved £0 of £600
Save for moving - saved £0 of £1,500
Save for mortgage - saved £0 of £20,000
**Credit Card** - paid off £0 of £279.16
So, overall, not the most successful start to the new year, but I am starting my new job tomorrow and looking forward to a better-behaved February :A Wish me luck....If you don't like where you are - move. You are not a tree.0 -
Pay off the CC, and see CAB about getting some reimbursement for your out of pocket expenses caused by the numpties at the SFC.
Incompetence at that level at the very least should mean a formal complaint so whoever is responsible for the Fubar takes the blame.0
