Thinking of starting again.

I currently work in a call center, although I am a skiled sheet metal worker.

I quite fancy the idea of getting back into sheet metal work, but although I am classed as a skilled SMW I cannot weld as I worked for an employer who did not allow dual skills (they saw welding and smw as 2 seperate skills)

I've been thinking of becoming a plumber/Gas heating engineer.

My dads in the trade (Over 40 years experience), as is my brother who did an apprenticeship where my dad works and is now s/employed and raking it in.

I've been looking on the net and seen some of these, train in 10 weeks courses. Are they the real deal, if so, why did my brother have to do a 3 year apprenticeship to be classed as a skilled tradesman.

I know quite a lot about the trade having grown up around it, and having worked the odd day for my dad/brother.

What I want to know is what is the best way to get in the trade.

Any help appreciated.
