Im thinking it may be the gearbox linkage or the engine mounts worn,the linkages are sometimes plastic with push on ends which dont hold up well so check those and the engine mounts before doing anything drastic.0

Ages back, my dad had a car that did that. He used a bungee cord to hold the gear stick which kept it in gear for reversing. Finally, reverse completely disappeared so he just didn't park where he needed to reverse.0
