AQA - do I really need a degree?

Before I start the supposidly 2 hour long test they sent me, I am wondering whether I really have to have a degree. I am a student at the moment, working towards my degree, but obviously I don't have it yet.

Is it still worth applying for?

  • I've heard that a Degree isn't always necessary. I followed someone's thread on here a few months back and she didn't have a Degree (or was even studying for one) and she applied and made hundreds a month from AQA! Go for it and Good Luck. I'm sure you'll be fine.

I received the Application materials too but apart from not having Excel on my new PC at the mo (to download and do the Test) I'm a bit stumped for 2 Referees. I haven't worked for several years and I know my most recent bosses/managers have retired to who knows where or died! Do you think this bit is just a formality or do you know whether they actually contact Referees?

Please let us know how you get on. Good Luck.

Hi, I work for AQA and don't have a degree, but you do need excellent English for punctuation and grammar.

Dont let the referee thing put you off, I didnt have any work referees and put down 2 people that had known me a long time. I dont know if they were ever checked.

You can still do the test if you dont have Excel, I dont have it on my PC either. You need to go here http://www.openoffice.org/ and download open office which will allow you to open and use the document.

The test doesnt necessarily take 2 hours, you have 12 questions and a maximum of 10 minutes for each question. In reality my test took around an hour.

Don't be defeatist guys, you can do it!

I have an AQA question. Where do you get your answers? Google? If so why do people pay and not look themselves. I looked at their website but couldn't find the answer to the sample question on there, so I thought hmmm maybe I'm not their ideal candidate:rotfl:

People pay because they are in a pub or don't have an access to a computer at the time. When you join AQA you are given help on how best to find the info.

I guess its when people are out with their friends, and they come up with a question! I did that a few weeks ago, when I stumped a room of us trying to figure out if cod have livers (they do!) and I ended up texting a lot of my friends asking. Then some of them text back saying they looked on the internet, and its true. So I can see the appeal of using the service.

Fair enough, I can understand that. I guess the MSE way of life is so ingrained in me that I can't think of anything that would be so pressing it couldn't wait until I could get home /to work / to a library. Unless of course it was some million pound quiz, then I might invest the pound :rotfl:

Good luck with your application, I always think with any job it's best to apply and do your best, let them tell you that you haven't got what they need, rather than excluding yourself because you think you aren't what they're looking for. Let us know how you get on, I'll cross all my crossable bits for you.
