CSA and second job

Im thinking of taking up a second job to help pay the bills and relieve the pressure a bit.I pay the full whack on my main earnings, and no complaints there, however,If I take up a 2nd job,am I under any obligation to inform the CSA of this ?

Obviously,to work yet more hours on top of a main job is a lot,and of course,I want to see the benefits of this cash wise, its not so attractive if that is "CSA taxed" as well.Note,we are not talking huge amounts of money here!

I dont want to,nor will I,get into a moral arguement with people,I just want the facts please.
Like a lot of people,im just trying to get by,iv no objections in paying for your kids, but I need to survive as well!

Yes, it will be subject to the % depending how many children you have. If one child then 15% meaning you will get the benefit of 85% of your wages.
  • Ok, moral debate to one side, legally you are not obliged to notify the CSA about the 2nd job. However, if the CSA asks you if you have another job or if you have another form of income, I.e someone else has told them or they've found out some other way, legally you are required to tell them the truth.

If you lie/misrepresent when asked and they find out later that you've done so - 1) they can recalculate what you've been asked to pay and backdate that calculation to when they were first informed that you had this 2nd job, resulting in arrears; and 2) they could decide to refer your case to their solicitors to try to prosecute you, because it is a criminal offence to knowingly give them false info. If a court found you guilty, you would have to pay a fine + maybe court costs + the resultant arrears.

Obviously it's up to you whether or not you want to take that risk. Some people don't get caught, those that do face the above.

I's not a CSA tax, it for the upkeep of your children.
It;s not to start a moral argument, its fact.

But can't you see his point though? He is willing to work extra hours to "make up" what the CSA are taking off him, he's paying his obligation but it might be leaving him short. Why should the CSA have a cut of the "extra" as well, he has to live as too!!

Does the CSA take a cut though or is it all given to his ex partner.

If say the OP earns an extra £100 a month what percentage goes to the CSA and what to the ex partner.

He, in actual fact, although paying 15% of his 1st wage is not fulfilling his obligation though, his obligation is to pay 15% of his income which is the total of 2 jobs.

And saying all that, yes, of course, I can see his point.

But presumably the only reason he's taking a second job is because he cannot manage financially after they have taken their cut. Why can't they be happy with 15% of his main job, and if he wants to kill himself working all hours god sends, then let him keep the extra?

Because that is far too sensible a thought
  • My ex has kids from other partners also, and has told me a while ago, that she is"doing very well"(her words) on benefits financially since the benefits disregard...(so were are not talking taking foods from kids mouths!)

Im far from a bitter person but it does grieve me a bit,and others in my situation to,that while I am struggling ,and considering taking other jobs and working all hours to just slightly raise my standing of living above "struggling" that I will then be making someone who is doing ok all ready, even better off, with no effort on her behalf at all!!!

Its a funny old world :mad:

Using the same yardstick, why cant the OP be happy with 85% of his second job. See what I mean.

CSA don't take a cut at all - it all goes to the ex partner. He still gets to keep 85% of the net earnings though, so he is still better off from working the extra job.
