NVQ Assessor/Verifier

Folks

Anybody out there working as a NVQ Assessor/Verifier?

I'm soon to be made redundant from my current job and (I work for a council) they have a redeployment unit that tries to find new jobs for the likes of me and the term "re-training" has been mentioned. As it happens Adult education appears to be getting more funding etc and this is a field that I am interested in. However everything appears to be geared around NVQ's and I'm interested in Assessor/Verifier roles which need D32 & D33 (I've managed to work out that these are being replaced by A1,A2... V1, V2 etc)

How do I get these qualifications?

FYI I last looked at this in 2002 and couldn't find a way around this conundrum. To get the qualifications you had to be a trainee but to be a trainee you had to have the qualifications already. Surely a Catch 22 scenario , unless I missed something really obvious!

Any info/feedback would be appreciated. Lastly, my work history is all warehousing & distribution. I don't want to do this anymore (its too stressful both mentally and physically) but would have no problem in training the next generation etc

yours

Eamon

What NVQs do you have? You need the equivalent level NVQ to assess that level, and you can asses a lower level but not higher.

So if you have an NVQ 3 in something - then you can assess levels 1, 2 and 3

Or if you don't have any NVQs what would you like to do them in?

I know Assessing is paid at approx £8 per hour here (which is a good wage)

You don't need to have an NVQ in a work area to assess in it - you just need relevant experience. The A and V units are NVQs themselves - that you are competent to assess and to verify NVQs.

Verifiers need to have worked as an Assessor, I think.

    Hi Eamon

It's worth speaking to your local college - most have them have work based learning units or depts. I did my A1/A2 awards last year as part of my job - you do need to actually assess NVQ candidates to get these awards. Colleges are always desperate for assessors and verifiers- so it may be worth chatting to the manager of the subjects/s you specialise in and see if they are willing to take you on part time and get you through your awards.

Btw you don't need to have NVQ's to assess - relevant experience/quals at or above the level required is acceptable.
