Claiming back petrol/mileage

I don't claim expenses generally as part of my job. Yesterday I attended a training course in another location.
I am filling out the expenses claim form this morning and it requires a petrol receipt to be provided, but not to be the same date as the training course.
Of course, I filled up before setting off to the course, but fortunately I do have an old receipt that I can use - but am just wondering why the receipt can't be the same date as the course? Anyone know?
(Obviously I can ask at work on Monday, but I'm too impatient to wait until then

sounds like company policy not tax policy - you'd need to ask at work. :cool:0

Don't know why the receipt has to be dated differently to the day of travel - that makes no sense at all. However, if your company are only reimbursing fuel and not contributing towards full costs (depreciation/insurance/tax/maintenance/wear and tear) they are taking the mickey IMHO.
They should pay the HMRC recommended rate of 45 ppm for use of your own car, or they should provide a hire/pool car.
Does your insurance include business travel?
How would you have got to the training course if you didn't have your own car available?0 -
Training travel expenses are reimbursed at 25p a mile. Used to be 13p apparently, but now is up to 25p.
If you don't have your own transport, then you need to try and arrange a lift - or wait until the training course is re-arranged at your own location.
We are talking local authority here

I wonder if it means it CAN be a different date rather then HAS to be? Maybe they're just being understanding that you may have filled up earlier in the week so didn't have to fill up on the day. Or does it expressly state it cannot be from the same day?0

Unfortunatly you may need to scamble around for an old reciepts...has happend to me many times! Our petrol reciepts need to be dated prior to the journey.0

ours do too, but is there any logical reason why?0

When claiming travel expenses at my company it is preferred we use receipts dated before the travel rather than after.
The reason given is that way they are paying for the fuel you actually used for the journey instead of the fuel bought to replace what you used. It seems a little odd but I can sort of see what they mean although I'm not sure how well I've phrased my response!
N.B I've never tried using later receipts so I don't know if they'd get rejected. Claims with no receipts at all do get sent back however.~~~~~~~~~~
If you’re generally healthy and aged between 17 and 65, do something amazing....
Give blood

That fails to take into account the wear on the vehicle, increased insurance costs incurred for business use, and the fact your prepared to use a personal vehicle for the employers use at zero cost to them.
Absolutely unacceptable.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0
