    Never be afraid to try the cheapest of anything. These are strange days, and sometimes the cheapest option is the best but even if it's not the "best" it's usually perfectly good. There are exceptions and there are some threads on here about which value products people like or dislike, but switching down a brand and then to value or basics saved me a bomb.

    Plan your meals weekly or monthly & cook as much as possible from scratch. Batch cook now & again so that instead of making one cottage pie, for instance, make an extra one for the freezer for a 'free' meal next week. This cuts out all those silly little trips to the supermarket for a basket of things that soon becomes a small trolleyful as no planning has been put into what you are going to cook & eat. Can't believe how much money I saved as soon as I started knuckling down to this as a routine. From Foxgloves (another reformed & now debt-free ex-frivolous naughty spender....there's a lot of us about! x)
