IM systems?!

I am currently completing an application for a job in local Building Control, the application form is 16pgs long.. (enough to put anyone off)

Anyways, one of the questions is asking '[FONT=&quot]Please demonstrate in this box, by providing personal and specific examples,
[FONT=&quot]that your experience includes using and updating IM systems relative to the construction industry'..

Now I have no idea what IM systems is..
I've googled and it only comes up with Instant Messaging Systems..
Does anyone have any ideas?

I'd have thought it meant Information Mapping Systems.

In my experience information for management has always been referred to as Management Information Systems [MI / MIS]

I'm having a guess that the job is with a local authority or other large, government agency. (The inflexible, useless 16 page long application is a clue). Use your initiative and phone up and ask what they mean by IM. (The next clue will be that you can't get a straight answer).

Information Management is an entirely different thing to Management Information. I have no idea what IM actually means in this context but Information Management is certainly a possibility.
  • IM will be Information Management - a database system that holds information. This might be a sales system that you've used full of leads and client information, for example. SAP are a big firm that produce this type of software.

If it helps, I'm an IT manager in a local authority so if I can be of help, let me know!

  • God help you if you end-up using SAP. It really is the pits. We use it at work and it is always going on a go-slow or just stops working completely.
