Debt recovery service adding £150 to the debt

Options
Hi

I have been unable to pay an invoice for a service a received a few months ago. The debt has now been passed to a cebt recovery firm who have written to me and added £150 to the bill.

Is this allowed. Can they do this on their first contact with me?

Infuriating. I hadn't paid the original invoice as I had a bit of a cash flow problem.

Would appreciate some advice before I phone them.

Thanks

  • What were the terms of the original agreement? Did you discuss the matter with the original creditor, to let them know?

If you have the funds to pay it, then you could try contacting the original creditor and offering to pay in full, plus interest for the delay, but explain that you will not pay admin fees for the debt collectors.

Be nice though, it may be infuriating, but ultimately, you failed to pay the bill, and you may have caused them a cash-flow problem.
