Car allowance/Fuel Card headache

Hi
For the last 3 years I have been receiving car allowance and also have a fuel card that I use for both business and personal.
For the 2 years prior to that I was using my own car and receiving 30p per mile from my company.
I understand that I can claim back tax relief for the 2 years that I used my own car via a P87 form however can I claim back anything for the last 3 years (with fuel card).
My business mileage for the last 3 years is between 25k and 30k per year with personal mileage approx 8k per year. I spoke to my local tax office this morning and they said that i could claim back for the 2 years i was using my own car, but not for the 3 years i had a fuel card (as they adjusted my tax code in each previous year for this) but other people at my company in the same situation have claimed back successfully!
Am i entitled to anything for the last 3 years or am i wasting my time?
Thanks in advance

You can claim the usual 40p for the first 10,000 miles and 25p per mile after that.

The fuel provided by your employer should have already been reported on your P11D and tax return, as a benefit in kind

As long as you don't have a company car your can always claim mileage allowance relief.

HMRC probably assumed that it you had a fuel card you also had a company car, in which case no further claims can be made.
if i had known then what i know now
