Tesco Evaporated Milk 44% price increase

Tesco Spytty Park Newport today is selling its own brand evaporated milk at 79p for a 400ml tin. Last week it cost 55p if I remember correctly. That's a 44% increase. This makes it more expensive than Carnation (78p a tin).
The store manager had no explanation other than to suggest I contact Head Office. I have just phoned Customer Services to be told that there is no mistake. They have a supply chain problem and have had to pass on the price increase to the consumer until the situation sorts itself out. This is disgusting!
Buy at Aldi's...it's 48p a tin. I'm off there now to get a couple of trays, in case there is a more generalised scarcity.

Nah, OP seems to be right, it is 79p (tin appears to be 410 ml though):

I suppose it will be on offer next week: buy 2 for 1.20, 'saving' 42 p! Tesco are forcing their customers to pay for the upgrade of their stores and the re-branding of the value range!!!!0 -
hi im really not being rude when i say this ... just an observation but why buy it ?? what are u going to use it for ? could u substitute another product ?onwards and upwards0

This is a Tesco rip off, if Harlow Tesco sell it for 48p why is it 79p 10 miles away at Bishops Stortford Tesco ? Its 59p at the near bye Sainsburys so its time I changed my supermarket shopping.0

I bought a 750ml bottle of Dettol in Sainsbury's two days ago for £3.50. When I went in to the same store yesterday to get some marked down gluten free bread (I'd checked the expiry dates two days ago and knew they'd be marked down) I noticed the Dettol suddenly became £3.84 overnight! I was so pleased I'd bought it the day before. That's 34p overnight!
