Discharged Bankrupt

Options
Hi today I have been discharged from bankruptcy. Obviously I don't ever want to be in that situation again but their are some things in life that require you to borrow. I don't want to borrow right away as that would be silly, but firstly what is the best way of rebuilding my credit record to enable me to borrow responsibly?

Secondly, I need to buy a new Apple Mac as my profession requires me to use one. They are expensive to buy outright and unless I save up for a year I'm never going to be able to afford to buy a new one. I work for myself, and the O.R. allowed me to continue trading as closing me down would have affected family in a big way. Basically I would have had no income. Anyway thats digressing a little, but has anybody got any suggestions for me on buying a new Apple Computer now I am discharged? I need a macbook pro, somehow without having to wait ages for my savings to build up.

    Save up for 1.
Know anyone who is selling 1 that you could buy.
  • Have you got one? Why do you need a new one if so?

Have a look at the Up your Income board, eBay things you don't need anymore, etc. etc.

Also I think education-related people get a discount on some Mac-related stuff, if that pertains to you :)

  • Yes I already have one but its a Powerbook G4 from 2005/6. It does its job and I have been using it constant for along while everyday. I should point out that I'm a graphic designer here. It has been a solid machine apart from when I spilled a glass of cider on it lol...it got very drunk and was a bit hungover the next day hence why I had to send it to rehab. However some tasks are becoming increasingly difficult to handle on this machine, and I have upgraded it as far as I can possibly go. The processor is 1.67Ghz and most good quality machines for graphics work require a bit more grunt due to the software. Hence the need to upgrade. Ideally I would like to have a mac running Windows and OS X since my work requires me to test websites across both OS's from time to time. This would save me tons of time and allow me to earn more money out of my work.
  • Hi nick, maybe try looking on eBay amazon cashback websites. How much do the macs cost, would Xmas gifts be better as vouchers for a place that sells macs. Good luck :-)

  • Okay, need for Mac makes sense with your job - my ex was a sound engineer and got through loads more work with one.

I'd still go with upping your income - freelancing, paid surveys, bar work etc. Also ask for contributions towards it for Christmas/birthday presents, and minimise all entertainment etc. Fingers crossed it won't take too long!

  • I think I should be able to get it together, this machine will last me a little while longer but it is old in Mac terms, however like I said its been solid...I can't fault it on that. Never had any problems with it but then I look after my machines, I have to as I can't be without one for very long if at all. I have tight deadlines to meet so it goes without saying. I have plenty of work on but obviously the bills come first so its often difficult to save...just when you thought it was safe scenario springs to mind....but then thats the same for everyone who has responsibilities. I suppose what I was looking for was a way of financing one considering my situation. I wasn't sure if there was some way of putting the finance under a business name instead of my own since my own is obviously tarnished now.
  • It'll still link back to you.

Don't get any more credit when you don't reeeally need to!

  • Apart from the fact that you wont even get any finance/credit deal anytime soon, the main issue is if you say it's difficult to say now or before you were discharged, then how do you expect to repay any finance if you did get it?

People that can afford finance are those that currently have something spare all the time but would rather not wait to save all those spare monies, so get it all at once.
  • ok well someone mentioned doing online surveys? never done them but how much do they pay? and are there other things like that to earn money easily?

Bravehearted, I was just asking the question. I could most likely earn enough to pay for it monthly. And besides I was just trying to get some ideas on how to pay for it, I don't like or really want credit ever again to be honest but this is becoming a critical issue for me.
