BBC Spendaholics - seeking
BettyTV
Hello, I noticed an earlier discussion thread about the programme 'Spendaholics'.
I work for Betty TV, the producers of the BBC3 programme Spendaholics.
(See - http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/progra...cs/index.shtml)
We are currently looking for people to be part of the 4th series - to be filmed over the next few months.
We offer genuine help for people who want to get their spending habits and debt under control.
If anyone would like to know more my name is Claire and I can be emailed at spendaholics@bettytv.co.uk
Thanks,
Claire
Actually, if anyone is interested... to get an idea of how people from the last series have fared - a follow-up series was made. The next programme is on BBC3 on Tues 23rd April at 7pm 'Spendaholics Saved My Life'

I would have to have had a lobotomy to want to spend more than 5 seconds with "ben" the so-called phychologist
he is called a therapist, Betty, can you tell me what his qualifications are. I have dome some training in psychotherapy & counselling and his approach ( ahem) seems in complete contravention to the theories that I learned and practiced. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
i also now a tone of people who would be good on this programe but are too scared to completely hang out there dirty washing in public. You know where am coming from:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0

although im in no debt myself, i love watching progs like this..0

I would have thought most people who use this site are already doing at least the basics referred to in the program and thus would not be suitable material!0

I would expect that people on this board especially are already "post-spendaholics". Maybe the "Shop but don't drop" board may be more fertile ground - though of course, obtain permission from "The Management" before canvassing..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Thanks ZTD, I'll ask the forum bosses if it's ok to post there.
In answer to some of the questions above..
The methosds Ben Fry uses are generally based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques. This is a very common form of therapy, used by many therapists. CBT methods have been shown to be very successful in assisting people in changing bahaviours and ways of thinking. Information about this type of therapy can be found on the NHS website - eg http://www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/articles/article.aspx?articleId=469
Also advising on the programme (but not on-camera) is psychotherapist Mary MacCallum Sullivan (her practice website is online) all Ben's methods/ideas also go through her.
For most people it would be an daunting prospect to have ones 'dirty linen' (as someone described it) exposed. I truly admire the courage of those who take part in the programme. But those who do decide to take part have done so on the basis that what they could potentially gain from the participation will be worth it. It's not for everyone of course!
Please take a look at the follow-up programmes currently being aired on BBC3 about how people have fared after taking part in the last series.

thanks for this.
Ive been trained in CBT and Im actually nothing short of astounded at his practice.
If hes registered, he certainly shouldnt be.
I dont doubt a lot of the principles in spnadholics are good, lets face it most of us here are doing those and more ( eg living on the bare bones budget week in month out, not 7 days then up the budget) its the practice I object to. Shouting at someone obviously in distress, just doesnt work for me im afriad. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Now, now - you know being calm, controlled and effective doesn't make good television.
Everything that emanates from the flickering Idiot Lantern in the corner is just for entertainment purposes..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
