I suspect the 'easiest' route would be to try to regularise his tenancy.
This may unfortunately cause major issues for the landlord, who may want to evict him.
I suggest you ask over on the 'renting' section of the forum.0 -

Thanks all. No driving license not changed (he is a man....), no evidence of living where he does as suspect landlord wants to keep it casual for tax purposes .........definitely separated. Been racking my brains but it appears you CAN live elsewhere for 8 years without leaving a trail.......(although split across two addresses where rented informally and paid cash). Any further thoughts will be much appreciated.....0

So they are seperated not divorced. How old are the children? His wife is going to be in a lot of trouble. 8 years! To be frank, the only reason he can't prove that he has been living elsewhere is either because he hasn't, or because he has been avoiding other fiscal responsibilities. Either way, I think he may be about to face the music. The only real question is which tune they are playing.0
