Which Christmas cake shall I buy ?

We have just moved to a 1970's house with an 'original' kitchen - including the cooker. The oven effectively has two settings 'off' and 'incinerate'. So I cook in my Remoska and pressure cooker a lot and we will be having our Xmas turkey at my daughter's since trying to cook properly in the oven is just a waste of good ingredients.(We are saving up to have a kitchen makeover and NEW OVEN). I usually make Delia's Creole Xmas cake, but this year am not going to waste all those wonderful and expensive ingredients in this oven, so I shall have to buy a cake. Apart from Delia's cake which is just fruit and booze really, we aren't wild about fruit cake usually - can anyone recommend a 'bought' Christmas cake for us to have this year, preferably a not hideously expensive one ?

I would think the Lidl ones that Edwardia mentioned would be rather good - most of their cake products usually are. I normally make my own, but have bought the Aldi one in the past (and I am this year too) and it is really nice. My mum buys it every year now and when they do the xmas cake surveys in the magazines & papers the Aldi one usually comes out top. Beats most if not all of the very pricey ones. If I remember correctly it is £6.99. They also do a few different stollens & panettone too - but think some of their christmas food range doesn't come in until the beginning of December. HTH0
