Annual Leave

My organisation recently held its AGM. Staff were allocated jobs to either attend and support the event or 'man the office'.

Staff that attended the AGM (within normal working hours) have been awarded an extra day annual leave (not flexi) to reward them for their hard work. Staff left in the office have not been awarded this extra day. Can my organisation do this?

Thank you in advance for any advice

    Short answer - yes!

Basically a firm can discriminate in any way it likes as long as it is not for one of the handful of reasons prohibited by law (sex, religion, disability etc).

Also, it is unlawful to treat part time employees differently to a full time colleague doing the same job.

Unless you can prove one of these reasons then there is nothing you can do.
