what are CEO days holiday?

I work 2 days a week. Holiday entitlement is 5 weeks, pro rata, ie. 10 days in the first year. This increased to 11 days the second year.
Then we were told we had to be paid pro rata bank holiday days too so my holiday entitlement increased to 14 days. I assume by this that my bank hol entitlement was 3 days.

Last year they added 1 day long service so was then 15 days.
This year my holiday was notified as 14 days, with a letter asking if I wanted my service day as pay or holiday. I chose holiday, putting me back on 15 days. This seemed clear enough.

Then the bombshell. They've said we have the wrong holidays, sent out new notifications and mine has gone down to 10 days
They've put that this doesn't include CEO days.
They have not told us what CEO days are.
Whats happened to my B/Hol days and my Service day? My days have now gone down to what they were in my first year 6 years ago.....I'm not a happy bunny. :(

Do you work for a US company by any chance? I did a Google on "CEO days" and "annual leave" and it only came back with two hits (neither any help) but both from the US.

I always thought that CEO stood for Chief Executive Officer, but the only way I can think that this would relate is if they were discretionary holidays?

Sorry I can't be more help, but I'd be very interested to hear the answer? x

Heres a crazy idea - why not ask your employer?

Make sure your holiday entitlement is directly proportionate to the holiday entitlement of a full-timer with the same period of employment.

    Not very helpful.

The OP is trying to understand her correct position before she approaches her employer.

I don't know what CEO stands for, but it is possible that at least some of your extra days should have been pro rata, but weren't. So if a full-timer was getting one extra day after a year's service, you should only have been getting 2/5 of a day, IYSWIM.

But that doesn't explain why you've suddenly lost your 3 days for bank holidays (although in fact 3/5 of 8 is 3.2, so you were being diddled slightly even then!)

Unless someone's suddenly decided that you're NOT getting bank holidays as well as the statutory minimum, but a) that ought to be discussed rather than imposed and b) there are proposals to make the stat. min. 24 and then later 28 days, which could reasonably include BHs.

I think you will have to ask your employer what they mean by CEO days - if this is their jargon for bank holidays then you should still be getting those 3 days, but you will need to ask about your long service and extra day that you had for staying a year. You may find that they should have been pro rata, and weren't, but that should still be some extra!

Sorry if I have misunderstood, but are you being paid for the bank holidays? If so, you would not expect to also have them as part of your holiday allowance
    Not even wrong

Thanks everyone for your ideas. CEO....is indeed Chief Executive Officer, thanks for that dmg24. He did give us discretionary days last year which some employees have carried over. I took mine last year. I could only find CEO in relation to american employment too, ours is definately british.

As for bank holidays, yes I get them added into my holiday allowance and the shop is closed those days, but I still have to do my two days during that week. I can have them off if I book them as holiday, and just do one other day, but I usually just do two days the same as usual.

The pro rata 10 days is in relation to the standard 5 weeks paid to a full timer. I still get 5 weeks the same but only get paid for my two days per week. The 1 day extra after one years service is for part timers, full timers get 2 days, so that bit is correct.

The confusion lies with the other 3 days which I've had for the last 3 years, the bank holiday days. I've had a word with personnel since thats the only remaining dept at head office, it could just be a clerical error........I hope so

    Thanks for all your help.

Just to put my tuppence worth in, this is what I think you should be getting.

You work 2 days, so all entitlements are 40% of what full timers are entitled to.

    Holiday = 25 days x 0.4 = 10 days :)

    Bank holiday = 8 days (trust me - I am a CEO! - there are 8 bank holidays a year) x 0.4 = 3.2 days

Extra day after 1 year - are you sure about this, or is the extra day for full time employees, meaning you are entitled to only an extra 0.4 of a day?

Extra day long service - ditto.

So, if my theory (shared by Savvy Sue, I see :D) is correct, I reckon your total should be 14 days.

It does sound to me as if they have forgotten your extra long service days when calculating your leave. And they have forgotten bank holidays! IF you work on Mondays, I would let them keep forgetting bank holidays, and just take all the Monday bank hols as your right, since they haven't given you any entitlement......:D (you come out better this way round...)
