Pay Equality (Legal Question)

Is this discrimination of any kind?
Nobody can tell you whether this is an illegal form of pay discrimination based on the information you have provided.
For it to be a legal matter you would need to be being treated less favourably because of a protected characteristic...
E.g.The characteristics that are protected by the Equality Act 2010 are:- age
- disability
- gender identity and gender reassignment
- marriage or civil partnership (in employment only)
- pregnancy and maternity
- race
- religion or belief
- sex
- sexual orientation

That doesn't exactly answer my question. I'm looking more for your qualification.
But you're asking a bundle of random people on the internet...
I could tell you that I'm a barrister experienced in employment law, and that all the people who've already posted are correct.
The problem for you is that I'm neither a barrister nor an employment law expert - but you've no way to verify that. I still think everybody else is right though!0 -
And this is why forums are nasty places... People pick at people, rather than the topic at hand.
I'm out. Thanks to the people for the constructive advice.0 -
Right you naughty lot, put your hand up if you picked on the OP!

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -

Hi,
I'm looking for some advice.
Today I've discovered, through volunteered conversation with a junior dispenser, that I am being paid the same amount per hour as the dispenser. Consider that my job title carries more responsibility and has a higher level of qualification. It's also important to consider that had I still have been a dispenser, I would be being paid less.
The tenure of the dispenser is 1 year, compared to my 4 years.
Is this discrimination of any kind?? It's important to note, at this point, that the dispenser is good friends of the manager of the store.
Please help...
The Equal Pay Act is your starting point:

Of course not - this is an internet forum, and EPA is a specialist area, requiring specialist advice. Nevertheless, the EPA deals expressly with pay differentials. Hence my comment that this should be her starting point.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
