Hi all again,
I have been looking at how credit companies run files on us!, missed payment go from 1 to 6 then to an 8 then to a default.
I have 1 default on my file which shows the 1 to 6 but not the 8 which on credit reference companies FAQ's states that 8 is when a company tries to resolve get in touch before it goes to default.
With mine not having an 8 does this mean I can contest the default.
BTW the default is paid off next month and is 5 years old.
Many Thanks

If you have a default and you agree that yu actually owed the money
then no, contesting it will get you nowhere.
It's true record of your credit history.
It will be on your credit file for a full 6 years from the date of the default. So it will drop off automatically in 1 years time.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Does it actually state a default with a default date?
Some less scrupulous lenders try to screw your credit file for much longer than they should be able to by recording a succession of 6's without ever actually recording the default. Meaning that the debt will never come off your report until 6 years after it is settled, even though it should have been defaulted and come off 6 years from that.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
