post office question

Options
I live in a small village, and cant often get into town to go to the bank, so i do most of my banking at the post office. I have just found a huge stash of loose change, and have loads of bank bags, but can i pay the change in at the post office- i have managed fine with notes but never banked any change at the post office so just wondered if its possible???
Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!

if you take it in when you know it's not going to be busy I can't see it being a problem. When I worked in a florist we used to get our change for the till from the post office next door so I know they do give change out. Give them a quick ring to ask if it's ok if you would rather check before you lug it all down there.

My local PO wouldn't change up loose change for me, which was all bagged up nicely, even though they weren't busy. The man said it wasn't policy, but this was in a hideous HIDEOUS South London post office where everyone can't help but be grouchy. It drove me to tears as I needed it for food at the time. Cashed it in Natwest instead ;)

    Good luck xxx

I do it on a regular basis. I tend to keep all my loose change in tins and every couple of months or so I go to the P.O. If you just make sure that each bag has the correct amount in it there should de no problem.

When you say village, I mentally picture a nice old lady behind the counter who knows everyone, gets on with everyone, always has time for a chat and would only be too happy to help. It's almost like something from Postman Pat.

I'm sure she'd really love to take your change.

Back to reality for just a second - would any of the other shops be willing to take it? We used to have a guy in the corner shop who changed my copper when I was a student. He always seemed to need it and weighed it out on the fruit scales.
  • If you just want to pay it in to your bank account through the post office there should be no problem with this as long as it is bagged up correctly - I have done this quite often.

  • It is a nice wee village post office, so there probably wont be a problem- ive just counted it out, and i have 35 pounds- im just short of another few bits to make up some other bags (which would give me another 32 pounds!). I will give them a call to make sure they will change it for me before i take it down! Thanks for all replies!

Nice bit of exercise lugging it down there too. It's a win-win situation

You can always go to a local charity shop, many are crying out for loose change - as banks charge 'em.
