Hello.
I know this has probably been discussed many times elswhere, but i can't seem to find a specific answer.

My wife has just had one of these tax 'refund direct' forms supplied by her employer. (Which we wont be sending off due to the cost).

If we contact the IR direct, what information will they need to know to assess whether or not she is due a refund ?

Zork.

If you post the details from her P60 (or month 12 P45) we can tell you if she has overpaid :D

If your wife contacts the tax office she will need to tell them her tax reference number for them to find her on their system. If she worked to the end of the tax year her employer should be giving her a P60 any day now. This P60will give details of her pay, tax paid etc. A copy of her pay details will be sent to IR but of course IR may take some time to process the figures and if she should ring them her P60 info may not be on their system yet.

Also has your wife received any bank or building society interest and had tax deducted from it ? If she is on a low wage she may not have used up all her tax allowances and then be able to claim back some or all of the tax she has paid on her bank/building society interest

Thanks to both of you. Interesting point about the tax on savings, ( not that we have any) :0)
