I've had the same problem as I always make 2 salads at a time - whenever I make one I make one for the next day.

My solution is to not use lettuce or if I do to add it at te last minute as it makes the salad wet - I either add spinach or rocket, watercress etc

I also base most of my salad on carrot, celery, radish, tomatoes (are fine if not to ripe), olives, swede, spring onions, cooked potatoes - anything fairly hard in fact and i never have soggy salad!!
  • lemon juice keeps lettuce fresh, i saw it on superscrimpers and can confirm it works.

i get the round value lettuce when its on yellow sticker, shred by hand (chopping it with a knife makes ends of lettuce go off quicker - must be true as a french person told me!) I dont have a spinner but keep the lettuce in fridge in small bowl of water with a squirt of lemon, then shake out in sieve/colander and use> i usually keep it separate from the bread and make up sarnie just before lunch. keep butter in work fridge if needs be! hth

You don't need a salad spinner. If you wash lettuce (I don't bother) put it in a tea towell andd spin it around your head in the garden.

Lettuce leaves like little gem or cos have a lower water content and are less likely to go soggy.

However will wilt a lot faster then iceberg lettuce, which keeps crispy the longest of all available salads on the market.

I think it's that you pack it still wet from the water you rinsed it in.
I often pat mine with paper towel and leave it on the side for a while.

Edit: and I use mainly iceberg lettuce because it is just me who eats it and I hate waste, or cos lettuce if I can buy just one (often in pack of 2 in local tesco). And I never had this problem.

forget the lettuce - it will always go soggy. Instead opt for celery sticks, raw carrot sticks, and shredded white or red cabbage. Cabbage will stay delightfully crisp. The best white cabbage to use is the tight headed one which looks like a football and is used for coleslaw. And this variety will keep fresh for ages in a fridge salad tray too.
